..and by PvE here I mean Endgame UW, FoW, Ring of Fire missions, etc.. damage dealing Elementalist build.
I've been hopping from elemental set to another yet still undecided, and switching Attribute points every couple days isn't quite healthy, making me unable to invest in good runes or weapons.
So if you do have a good and powerful PvE build for either, please post it here.

Since you're E/R I'd suggest going fire and bringing your own Winter for the ring of fire missions. I'd opt for the AOE "spikes" like meteor storm, meteor, fireball/phoenix, rodgort's invocation... I still see a lot of people using fire storm, which is probably a bad idea in the endgame missions. Your team will be doing a lot of maneuvering, and you should be too unless you like standing there getting beat on by jade armor.

As for myself, I'm a E/N using water hexes and Soul Barbs for extra damage... it's great fun, and maelstrom kicks caster bosses' butts five ways to Sunday. I'd also like to mention that Blurred Vision ROCKS. I think I like it even better than Ward vs Melee, but I guess its a toss-up, depending on the situation.

Fire or Water, probably. Meteor Storm and Maelstrom both rip up casters pretty quickly. Fire's got more AoEs, but Water has some support spells like Ward Against Harm.

I really like trappers. They can rip through anything without casualty. 6 Trappers + 2 healers can get thru anywhere in the game. Since traps can be stacked and they cause a lot of conditions, 100 traps can kill anything. I want to try fragility + traps, because 5 condtions = 200+ damage from a hex alone.

if u want to set 100 traps u need mana and after all u havent got enoght mana to spamm fragility imho.

I have played in a trapper party (trapper only) in Underworld last night, and with a good leader u will not need a healer after all. So bring Quickening Zephyr + Energizing Wind, some sub. monks for rez and u will be fine

I use an E/R primary, and rotate between two setups depending on where we're going:

Wilderness setup (for Ring of Fire, and small UW groups)
Glyph of Energy
Fireball
Fire Storm
Meteor Shower
Searing Heat
Winter (if ring of fire) else any trap
Serpants Quickness
Either Storm Chaser, Troll Unguent,Rez Signet depending on group

Bestmaster Setup (for FoW and large UW groups where monks are okay with pets)
Glyph of Energy
Fireball
Fire Storm
Meteor Shower
Searing Heat
Charm Animal
Comfort Animal
Serpant's quickness/storm chaser/rez/pet attack (usually the slowdown or bleeding one)

Yep, they're both purely offensive builds, but thats what PvE eles are primarily about, as if they are smart they never get into mellee, and monks will cover ranged attacks as if you are being attacked by the ranger/caster - they aren't.

My first char was a R/E I did the last three missions with henches, simply because of winter(not as helpful in Ab's Mouth), . That was also before they redid the henches to help with their AI. They were unfused, but that was the only thing they had at that time.

I can't remember my set up, but I think I had firestorm, apply poison, barrage, ignite arrow, winter, incediary bonds, phoenix, capture sig.

As for FOW and UW traps for UW, and supprt for Fissure. But when I do Fissure I switch to my ele/mo, and UW is my R/E. Then I take Srpent's Qickness, all my traps, a spirit, apply poison, and a rez sig. SO I don't take any ele skils into the UW. With my ELe/MO I take ele attune (elite), fire attune (if I am only ele), meteor shower, firstorm, rodgorts invocation, Rez/rebirth, heal party, orison of heal, and if we have a few ele I swiths fire attune out to heal other. Ihave 94 mana so I can lay all my AoE and heal pretty easilly. But with your ranger sec, not sure what you need, definately focus on the damage area. If you carry a bow maybe an interupt shot for casters, and that is it.

Playing a ranger correctly is pretty difficult in most cases. But when you learn what your role has to be and what area you are going to, that makes choosing what skills and attributes you need very important. For the most part 5-6 of them will be the same as every other ranger, the last two slots can be debated but ultimately it is a personal preference. Since they might actually be skills you only use in certain spots if you need them, after thought skills mostly.

But if you play enough you will know when and where you need these skills.

Well SF nukre rule if u haev another searing flame

imagine facing abadone(who cant move) 2-on-1 with ele have some self healing and no one else could hit u, well constant 119 damage burning self heal burning and add in some glyph of sacrfise+rez chant/Metor shower
u got a dead god! But if u can change into E/D, you'll make a super tank that beat a wammo having a 100 hp regain(which is impposible) and if cannot when i was e/r i was fire barrger with a pet of course, my hard earn spider dude. My current buiilt that i am testing:

FYI a "build" is not an attribute. It generally involves skills and an attribute spread. "Earth" is not a build. And yeah, there was no point reviving this thread.

I cant stand running out of e on my nuker, so I prefer a dual attune setup.

Elementalist/Mesmer

Energy Storage: 13 (12+1)
Fire Magic: 16 (12+4)

- Fireball (Fire Magic)
- Liquid Flame (Fire Magic)
- Rodgort's Invocation (Fire Magic)
- Meteor Shower (Fire Magic)
- Arcane Echo (Mesmer other)
- Aura of Restoration (Energy Storage)
- Fire Attunement (Fire Magic)
- Elemental Attunement [Elite] (Energy Storage)

Run 20/20 wand and focus and nuke away. The great thing about running dual attune is the only thing limiting how much your casting is recharge times.
This build can nuke forever and never worry about energy problems.

Sandstorm, earthquake, and if you put up some wards you will have no problems using aftershock or shockwave.
